Petron blazes past Cocolife, arranges final duel versus F2

-

Petron primed itself up for a payback as it swept Cocolife, 25-15, 25-15, 25-16, late Thursday to arrange a dream finals showdown with F2 Logistics in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix.

Imports Katherine Bell and Lindsay Stalzer combined for 35 hits as the Blaze Spikers dominated the Asset Managers from start to finish to complete the one-hour, 25-minute win for a sweep of their best-of-three semifinal series.

Petron needed four sets to topple Cocolife in Game One.

But the Blaze Spikers imposed their will and strength in their second face-off, never giving the Asset Managers room for a comeback in all three frames while holding import Sara Klisura to just 10 hits.

With Rhea Dimaculangan dishing off 22 excellent sets, Petron produced 42 attack points, doubling their rivals’ output.

“We’re preparing hard for the finals,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos. “They’re strong and aggressive. So it will be a big challenge for us to redeem ourselves from last year’s defeat.”

Petron took the title series’ opener last year but F2 Logistics swept the next two to snare the crown.

Game One of the best-of-three finals is on May 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Earlier, F2 disposed of Foton, also in straight sets – 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 – to stay on course for their title retention drive.
