Cinderella highlights passionate, emerging creatives

Be different and go to Jail Jeans

-

Through the years, Cinderella has always put the spotlight on passionate, emerging creatives who just won’t give up, and whose vision and work stand out. Bridging talent with Filipinos looking for the latest styles has always been their mission. And this summer, there is much to look forward to, as two brands make a stellar launch at Cinderella.

The man behind the Singaporean-based brand Jail Jeans used to be a former runway model. Chris Jasler’s passion for fashion didn’t end when he walked the runways or posed for photographers; instead, his innovative nature and taste for the unique bore a fashion project unlike any other.

It all started when he was walking around the streets of Thailand. Chris saw a pair of handcuffs, which he hung at the back of his jeans. “And I started to think about how I could make a brand name with the handcuffs. So I thought, ‘You’ll be handcuffed when you go to jail,’ and that’s how Jail Jeans was born,” shares the designer.

And so the concept was born: Jail Jeans. Each piece of his collection is statement-making — avant-garde pieces perfect for individuals who know what they want, are bold and daring to the core. Chris says it’s for “people who aren’t afraid and don’t hesitate to wear something that’s different. People who know what they want in life — that’s why we have a slogan that says ‘Dare to Wear.’”

This season, Jail Jeans is still playing up the idea of wearable denim, but in line with the summer season at Cinderella, Chris uses lighter colors and more breathable fabrics — a welcome change for the hot Philippine climate. His work is precisely tailored, unique and feels personal. He says he veers away from following seasons or trends because, “If everyone follows a trend, then who’s the leader? And how can a brand mold if they keep following trends? You need to be the trendsetters.”

Chris says the fashion industry in the Philippines is booming right now in the sense that people have started to wear what represents them. “They are more brave and more creative,” he observes. “The only thing that I can see which we really need to further improve is that we need to support local brands and help them become bigger.”

Jail Jeans has been adding edge to classic denim since it first appeared on the runways in 2011. Now beloved by those unafraid to be different, are nonconformist and fearless in their fashion, this brand clearly has no intent of slowing down at Cinderella.
