Mayweather in Manila today – as guest

- By ABAC CORDERO

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is coming to Manila.

In a video clip posted by a Filipino based in Los Angeles, the flamboyant American superstar said he’s visiting the Philippines.

“I’m on my way to the Philippines. I can’t wait,” said the jet-setting and now retired boxer in the short video posted by Wendell Cunanan on Instagram yesterday afternoon.

Cunanan, a videographer in Manny Pacquiao’s training in the US, told The Philippine STAR he was with Mayweather in Thailand yesterday, and barring any lastminute changes, Mayweather wants to stop by Manila today.

“Not to talk business,” said Cunanan.

“I love the Philippines. I love all the fans. Thanks,” said Mayweather, who admitted having a couple of Filipinos on his team, including a female assistant named Kitchie and a videographer, James Dayap.

Cunanan just found his way to Mayweather.

“Of course, my assistant, she is Filipino,” said Mayweather, pointing to her female assistant, who looks every inch a Filipino.

“This is my Filipino team. I have a Filipino team. This is my Asian team,” said the richest athlete ever, who fought UFC king Conor McGregor in August 2017, and stretched his ring record to 50-0.

Cunanan did not disclose the real purpose of the visit other than vacationing. But it should spark talks of a rematch between him and Pacquiao. He said he tried calling the Filipino fighter the other day “but he didn’t pick up.”

Pacquiao is in General Santos City training for hos July 15 fight with Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur.

“The Philippines. Floyd Mayweather is on his way to Manila. Get ready. I’m on my way,” said Mayweather.

It’s been three years since Mayweather faced Manny Pacquiao inside the ring in what was billed as the “Fight of the Century.”

The fight generated more than $400M in revenues, including a record 4.6M pay-per-view hits.
