Congressman’s SUV towed in QC

- Robertzon Ramirez

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforcers towed Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman’s sport utility vehicle for being illegally parked in Quezon City yesterday morning.

The MMDA said its personnel were conducting a road clearing operation along Scout Borromeo street when they spotted an illegally parked Hyundai Tucson with plate number 8.

The vehicle was used by Lagman’s grandson, TJ, who paid the traffic citation ticket issued against him, the MMDA said.

Tickets for towed vehicles cost around P2,500 to P3,500, the MMDA said.

TJ reportedly admitted his fault and said he failed to inform the vehicle’s driver to proceed to the garage of the condominium where they pulled over instead of parking on the kerb.

Bong Nebrija, supervising operations officer of the MMDA, said the apprehension shows they are impartial.

“The way we will earn the respect of the people in the things we do is when we will remain consistent with our apprehensions,” Nebrija said on his official Facebook page. He is in Singapore for an official trip.

Nebrija also lauded the cooperation of Lagman’s driver, who did not use their influence to avoid being issued a traffic ticket.

In January last year, the MMDA earned praises after enforcers towed illegally parked vehicles owned by a government official and actress Aiko Melendez. –
