More gun ban violators held

At least 150 persons were arrested in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) from April 14 to May 6 for violating the gun ban for the barangay and Sanggunian­g Kabataan elections.

Chief Superinten­dent Guillermo Eleazar, Calabarzon police chief, said 127 guns, two bladed weapons, three replicas, two grenades and various types of ammunition were recovered from 150 persons, including two police officers and three village chiefs.

Laguna has the highest number of seized firearms with 54, followed by Cavite and Batangas with 25 each.

Eleazar said barangay officials and candidates also turned over 638 guns for safekeepin­g.

In North Cotabato, Alcon Tubasa, 43, who is running for chairman in Barangay Tumbras, Midsayap, was arrested at a checkpoint yesterday after a pistol was found tucked in his waistband.

Former police officer Carlos Canindo Jr., 60, and Alex Marcos, 50, were arrested for selling two caliber .45 pistols, a 9mm and ammunition at an entrapment in Barangay Malinta, Milagros, Masbate on Sunday.

Pamfelo Xarola, 58, was arrested for shooting a group of men who gate-crashed his birthday party in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

Oliver Gabriel, 44, was nabbed for gun possession in Barangay Siling Matanda, Pandi.

Julieto Fagwan, 45, a candidate for barangay chairman in Balili, Mankayan, Benguet, was arrested for allegedly hacking farmer Daniel Simon Batoon 28, and threatenin­g Reynante Guyo, 28, using a knife last Friday.
