Truly a Filipino juice drink

Our BFF Toni, an ever resourceful lady, has gifted us with a new product that would be very refreshing on these very hot days. These are juice drinks using Filipino fruits. Branded as Locally, they are made from green and ripe mangoes and guavas from Batangas and Quezon. Eco-safe, they come in 8-ounce glass bottles. These are now available in convenience stores and supermarkets. At this point we are proud and happy to note this innovation, a truly Filipino fruit drink. Incidentally, Del Monte has blended its pineapple juice with stawberry, which makes it less sweet.

We read that there is going to be a Train 2. We need to have clarification on its details. Anyway, here is the result of our recent price market watch at a neighborhood supermarket:

Dressed chicken, unfamiliar brand, sells for P130 kilo, pork chops at P275, caldereta cut beef at P273, pork mechado cut at P245.

Sitao a P70 a kilo but small bunches enough for one cooking is P10.09, while sayote is priced at P25 a kilo. Carrots at P78 a kilo and

kangkong at P17.50 a bunch – quite a jump in price. A close watch on our budgets will have to be done.

We have not had tortang talong for a long time, until our new cook did it one day. In our younger days the best dip for this dish was vinegar with crushed garlic and ground black pepper. Another good dish is rellenong sili, using yellow capsicum. You grill the pepper, peel the skin, fill it with sautéd meat, dip in beaten eggs and fry. Super!
