A member of the Eastern Police District (EPD) was relieved from his post yesterday after he was caught on video in a heated altercation with a jeepney driver following a near collision in Marikina City.

Police Officer 1 Bernard Cantre, assigned with the EPD District Mobile Force Batallion, was relieved for conduct unbecoming of a policeman, National Capital Regional Police Office chief Director Camilo Cascolan said.

“I don’t want rude policemen under my command. I will dismiss them from the police service should they fail to reform,” Cascolan said.

He urged policemen to maintain their composure and exercise maximum tolerance in dealing with the public.

Cantre, who was in civilian clothes, and his pregnant wife were on a motorcycle when they figured in a near collision with a passenger jeepney in Barangay Fortune on Saturday morning.

When the vehicles stopped at a red light in Barangay Parang, Cantre allegedly confronted the jeepney driver and accused him of counter-flowing.

Cantre asked for the driver’s license but the latter presented a traffic violation receipt.

The driver said he apologized to Cantre. But the policeman brought him, together with the passengers, to the nearest police station.

One of the passengers took a video of the incident and posted it on Facebook.

EPD director Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Biay said he would not tolerate the wrongdoing of Cantre.

Biay ordered the District Investigation Unit of the EPD to look into the incident.
