NPA rebels kill b’gay exec
Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels gunned down a village councilman who was also a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit in Agusan del Norte on Wednesday, the military reported yesterday.
Edgar Panisan was attending to his constituents during a fiesta in Barangay Mahaba, Cabadbaran City, when he was shot at about 12:45 p.m.
“A witness identified one the perpetrators as a member of the Guerrilla Front-21C of North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee,”Capt. Al Anthony Pueblas, 402nd Infantry Brigade spokesman said.
Meanwhile, government troopers launched pursuit operations for around 20 NPA rebels they encountered yesterday.
Lt. Col. Isagani Nato, Northern Luzon spokesman, said soldiers of the 86th Infantry Battalion were conducting combat operations when the clash occurred in Barangay Benguet, Echague.
Cops disarmed
In Zamboanga del Norte, communist insurgents took the firearms and vehicle of Senior Police Officer 1 Oscias Gomez and PO1 Rey Lismis in Sitio Rebe, Barangay Mauswagon, Godod at around 9 a.m.
The rebels took the policemen’s four guns, including three M16 rifles, and ammunition.
The police officers were in a patrol vehicle on their way to Salug town when the incident occurred.
The police vehicle was later found abandoned along the road.
