Belmonte lauds appointment of new NCRPO chief
Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte has welcomed the appointment of Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar as director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Belmonte, who worked with Eleazar when he headed the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said she expects the new NCRPO chief to help build public trust in the Philippine National Police.
“We are happy. We are ecstatic that he was named NCRPO chief. He deserves it,” she said. “Things are bright under his lead- ership.”
The vice mayor said Eleazar’s support in the city government’s campaign against illegal drugs has been invaluable.
Belmonte, who heads the Quezon City anti-drug abuse advisory council, said around 16,000 drug suspects voluntarily surrendered to authorities when Eleazar was QCPD director.
“He set the standard for what a district director should be or should be doing, especially in terms of community relations,” she said.
“I think everything starts with trust and confidence built between the police and the community. He was able to establish that here in Quezon City and that’s why we are successful because we rallied behind him and he rallied behind us. We have genuine cooperation and a very good working relationship,” she added.
President Duterte appointed Eleazar as NCRPO chief on Friday, replacing Director Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, who was reassigned to the Civil Security Group.–
