Molding young minds
Football legend Vince Lombardi once said, “Leaders are made, not born.” This is the very principle behind First Pacific Leadership Academy’s (FPLA’s) Summer Camp held recently at the campus grounds in picturesque Antipolo.
Children and teens, aged nine to 16, participated in the two-day discovery camp, which allowed them to make friends, learn new skills, and build confidence and character.
Over the course of two days — which included an overnight stay at the Executive Residences — the academy offered guidance to the young participants through several inspiring, character-building discussions, which included talks about leadership.
“It was fun being around other kids and making new friends,” says Alfonso Biason, a first-time participant of the Summer Camp. “I enjoyed the activities because they were interactive. We got to move around, play and explore.”
The activities were held in different venues within FPLA’s lush campus, so the kids enjoyed the added benefit of breathing fresh air and traversing a refreshing environment.
“I attended last year’s camp, which was fun as well,” says Matthew Peña, a 16-yearold incoming Grade 11 student. “What I love about these summer camps is that they help you discover your strengths and work on your weaknesses.”
“I was one of the youngest during last year’s camp,” Peña continues. “This year, I looked forward to camp because I’m now one of the older ones, so I wanted to help younger kids adapt. I do encourage kids and parents to enroll their children in these types of camps, because it’s really a good learning experience. It helped me a lot!”
