Negros Oriental health centers upgraded

-

For the health workers of Siaton, a municipality in Negros Oriental, their work is a vocation, a public service they take very seriously. The doctors, nurses and midwives of this agricultural town work hard to deliver quality healthcare services to their constituents.

Supporting them in their mission is BDO Foundation, which recently rehabilitated the rural health unit of Siaton as part of its ongoing efforts to help improve the delivery of primary healthcare services all over the Philippines.

With the project completed, a catchment population of more than 82,000 people in 25 barangays is expected to benefit from the improvements in the health center.

The foundation also rehabilitated another health center in a neighboring municipality – Basay rural health unit in the coastal town of Basay, the fishing capital of Negros Oriental. This new and improved rural health unit serves more than 28,000 people from 10 barangays.

BDO Foundation significantly improved the two health centers’ various rooms and facilities for the benefit of mothers and babies, children, senior citizens and other patients. Reception and waiting areas, offices, treatment rooms, dental clinics, laboratories and other facilities were renovated. New furniture and fixtures were installed. Breastfeeding stations were built to give nursing mothers the privacy they need.

Basay municipal health officer Dr. Jacqueline Valencia, who has served her constituents for close to 30 years, echoed these sentiments, saying, “I have seen significant change in our health center. From a simple facility back in 1989, our rural health unit now is very impressive. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much BDO Foundation for making us a beneficiary of your program.”

The newly rehabilitated rural health unit of Siaton and Basay rural health unit were turned over to local government officials by BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito and BDO Foundation program director Rose Espinosa.

With them were BDO Dumaguete-Silliman Campus branch head Clem Fontelo, BDO Dumaguete-Colon branch head Gus Pastor, BDO Robinsons Dumaguete branch head Rose Aguilar and BDO Negros OrientalBayawan branch head Ricky Zabala. BDO branches support the foundation’s rehabilitation program and other corporate citizenship initiatives.
