Things you didn’t know about Jameson

- BOY ABUNDA

Jameson Blake is often mistaken by many as a rich kid who belongs to a well-off clan. His mestizo good looks, probably, is giving that kind of impression and no one could blame him for having been blessed with a good set of genes from his Filipino mom and American dad. But the Hashtags member is not one to create an image he couldn’t completely embrace. He’d rather honestly tell that he is the breadwinner of the family.

On the hot seat of Tonight with Boy Abunda a couple of nights back, Jameson didn’t hesitate talking things about himself and his family, including the happiest moment of his childhood.

“As a kid, mahilig na ako mag-computer, playing online games,” began Jameson. “So, I think I’m an introvert since I seldom go out of the house.” But it doesn’t mean he is not aware of what’s happening around him especially on what millennials like him are going crazy about these days: Everything Korean.

In case you don’t know, Jameson is a Kpop fan. “Ever since I got to (be one of the) Hashtags, and I’ve seen how Korean groups like XO, BTS perform, even if I don’t understand what they’re saying, the way they perform inspire me. I went to their concerts also. Inigo Pascual is also a fan and we became friends because of this.”

He is also aware that there is this impression of him as someone who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

“Well, it’s not how it really looks like. I came from a broken family. My parents are separated — my dad, an American, is in Hong Kong and my mom is a teacher; tutor

sa mga Chinese who studies English. My mom is happily married to my stepdad. Actually, they were a couple before, then after 20 years when we came back to the Philippines, they got back together again.”

His mom, Clarissa Gibbs, worked as a baker in Hong Kong and when Jameson entered the

Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) house three years ago as one of the PBB 737 housemates, he asked her to come home to take care of his siblings in Pampanga.

It was also in the said reality show when Jameson got the opportunity to be reunited with his father, Robin Blake, whom he had not seen for almost eight years. The two were given the chance to spend 100 seconds inside the house. To recall, Robin felt sorry for not be- ing able to visit Jameson here in the country.

“I’m really close to my stepdad who really did a lot of sacrifices for me when we started here in the Philippines. When we moved here, we went through hard times, too, and he’s there for us so I love him. I look at him as my dad also.”

As to his biological dad, Jameson said they regularly communicate and his dad regularly sends financial support.

Now that he is earning as one of the busiest and most visible members of Hashtags, Jameson can afford to support his younger sister’s schooling. His heavy workload must have been the reason why the 20-year-old

Kapamilya talent decided to stay loveless for a year or two now.

“I have a lot of responsibilities. For me, love is always there you know, there’s always time for that and I choose to be how I am right now. But I am open (to finding love) it’s not just my priority.”

Unlike other guys his age, Jameson is not a party-goer. He rarely attends parties since he prefers to just stay home on his free time “and just play computer with my friends. I have a lot of friends but there’s only a small circle of friends that I can trust.”
