TYKFI supports early childhood care, development
The Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc (TYKFI), led by its chairman and president Dr. Lucio Tan, announced that under its education advocacy program, it will continue to support projects of the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Council, that provide holistic and quality care and education for all Filipino children, particularly those aged 0-4, with a special focus on inclusion of children with developmental delays and disabilities.
With shared vision in mind, TYKFI initially donated 1,500 sets of the National Learning Curriculum’s Learning Resource Packages for Pre-Kindergarten (NELCLRP for Pre-K), to the ECCD. The Learning Resource Package (LRP) which was developed by a set of multi-sectoral practitioners and experts, is a complete set of reference guide pertaining to the full range of health, nutrition, early education, and social services modules, and aimed at the holistic developmental needs of young children 0-4 years of age.
These guide materials have been used in the ECCD’s trainings of childcare development workers nationally.
Because Dr. Lucio Tan believes that early childhood training and guidance are so important to the future development of the child, he instructed the TYKFI to also reach out to communities in Regions I and II and bring them ECCD’s training for childcare development workers.
To further enhance the training of the early child development workers, the Foundation also sponsored the attendance of more than 100 participants to two ECCD collaborative events that were held at Teacher’s Camp in Baguio City in October 2017; namely: The Early Childhood Care and Development Congress and the National Conference on Inclusion of Children with Developmental Delays in the Early Years.
TYKFI officers joined 53 participants in the ECCD Congress and 54 participants in the Conference on Inclusion – a mixed group of day care workers, kindergarten teachers, school principals, and municipal social welfare development officers (MSWDO) from Sta Fe, Aritao, and Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, from Vigan City and Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur, as well as from Pasig City.
Both the Congress and the conference were a collaborative accomplishment that involved multi-sectoral, inter-agency, local as well as international professionals and heads, that came together to share insights and experiences in ECCD.
The Foundation shares the ECCD’s dream for the child development teacher, together with the families, communities, and all other stakeholders to bridge gaps for the children and their families, through early identification and meeting of their developmental needs to reach their full potential in the future.
Kristine Mari Valdez, a kindergarten teacher from the Tan Yan Kee Elementary School, barangay Balete, Sta Fe, Nueva Vizcaya said she and other trainees would definitely become better teachers after their ECCD training.
