Valdez, Morado eyed for Asian Games squad
Creamline’s Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado will make the 20-woman, Aby Maraño-skippered national women’s volleyball team hoping to see action in the Asian Games set this August in Palembang and Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. will make the official announcement today but sources said Valdez, Morado along with Mika Reyes, Myla Pablo, Jaja Santiago, Dindin Manabat, Kianna Dy, Dawn Macandili, Kim Fajardo, Majoy Baron and Denden Lazaro among others are expected to make the list, according to sources.
Rebecca Revera, CJ Rosario, Mylene Paat, Maika Ortiz, Rhea Dimaculangan, Ces Molina, Cha Cruz and MJ Philips are also reported to have made the initial list.
The pool though will be trimmed down to 14.
“We will officially announce tomorrow (today) but most them might make it,” said Cayco.
Valdez and Morado though may skip the Phl Superliga Invitationals slated on June 23 since it ran smacked into the ongoing Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference where the Cool Smashers are title favorites.
The PVL will end on July 18 assuming Creamline makes it that far.
“They (Valdez, Morado) asked me if they can join after the PVL,” said Cayco.
Ricky Palou of the PVL said the league has no problem of their players playing in other leagues, leaving Valdez, Morado and Pocari Sweat and their club teams to decide on it.
Interestingly, only three players from the PVL were being eyed while the rest from the PVL.
Cayco said he will personally ask the PVL to allow the three to play.
“I will write the PVL a letter,” said Cayco.
