Concom begins regional roadshows

- By ROBERTZON RAMIREZ – With Ben Serrano

Starting tomorrow, the consultative committee (Concom) of President Duterte will hold regional consultations and presentation of its draft amendment to the 1987 Constitution, which is expected to be completed today.

Concom spokesman Ding Generoso said some committee members are visiting Dumaguete City tomorrow to get feedback on the draft.

The next regional consultation and presentation will be held in Baguio City (Cordillera Administrative Region) and Tacloban City (Region 8), followed by Butuan City (Region 13) and Legazpi City (Region 5) after the Concom’s three-day session, en banc, from June 19 to 21.

The Presidential Management Staff-Office of Regional Concerns, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Presidential Communications Operations Office-Philippine Information Agency will join the Concom’s roadshows.

Generoso explained that the consultation and presentation is “part of the mandate of the Concom” under Duterte’s Executive Order No. 10.

“The consultations will provide Concom the venue and forum to present its proposals and get feedback from the public and the various stakeholders,” Generoso said.

He added that the feedback they receive during the consultations will be submitted to Duterte and Congress as part of the Concom’s input in finalizing the new constitution.

The Concom targets to complete the draft today as it aims to submit the new Charter to Duterte on July 9, two weeks before the President’s State of the Nation Address.

Expected to attend the Region 13 roadshow this week are 250 local government officials and 250 representatives from non-government organizations and marginalized sectors.

The consultation and presentation is dubbed as the “Federalism Roadshow.”
