We met the Zialcita sisters – Mench, Kayen and Nimit – a long time ago. Kayen was still working with a food company then. We were introduced by our nephewin-law, who is their nephew, at a gathering in their San Juan compound. To this day, we specifically remember the lentil soup with chorizo among the dishes they served. That was a pleasant new taste to us.
When Kayen left the corporate world, the sisters, inspired by the cooking of their mother and grandmother, formed the Burp! Ladies team to carry on the culinary legacy.
Distance and other endeavors prevented us from seeing them as often as we wanted. Then a post by Kayen on Facebook about their fully-laden paella tweaked our gastronomic curiosity, that we had to contact them. They are still doing their food order enterprise and thus the Burp! Ladies have been rediscovered!
Yes, they are still at it and have even expanded their offerings to include breads to desserts. But a suggestion of preferences by the client is always considered.
Basically a food order enterprise, the menu is wide-ranging. One chooses from the extensive selection, but the ladies offer assistance, especially in composing menus. The menu consists mainly of Fil-Spanish dishes but they can also do sinigang, etc. Other than their popular paella, which is loaded with bacon and
chorizo (tagged at P3,350 an order for about 15 people), some of their other signature offerings include chicken croquetas with aioli, pollo Iberico, gambas ajillo and beef salpicao. They have innovated on polvoron and put it into bottles, which makes it easier to scoop.
Since we are a bread person, we are delighted that they have a good selection, including 3-cheese bread, black olive with feta cheese and chorizo and garlic focaccia. Amid confirmation of a change in ownership and management, MarketPlace by Rustan’s opened recently on South Road leading to the gated villages in Barangay Inchican, Silang, Cavite. As in its other outlets, this one is a bit pricey. Dressed chicken is at P149 a kilo. Beef sirloin at P700-plus and the Buy 1-take-1 lamb chops for P789. One happy note – we found the rare fennel seeds for P119 a bottle. They have azafran at P193 a pack of 48 gms, mustard, garlic and herb salt. One negative note – there is no driveway to the store entrance nor an awning, so when it rains, customers get wet. Be protected from the rain. Bring an umbrella or wear a raincoat.
