EPD precinct chief, 6 cops axed

A precinct commander in San Juan and six police officers in Pasig were relieved from their posts, an Eastern Police District (EPD) official said yesterday.

Senior Inspector Angelbert Dumaging was ordered relieved by newly installed EPD director Chief Superintendent Alfred Corpus, who inspected the Greenhills precinct on Monday.

“I was dismayed after seeing the police (precinct) dirty and disorganized. I called him up several times but he failed to either answer or return my call,“Corpus said.

Dumaging was put on floating status at the EPD headquarters. Senior Superintendent Bowenn Masauding, San Juan police chief, designated Senior Inspector Edgar Escresa as Dumaging’s replacement.

The EPD director also relieved six Pasig City policemen who were caught sleeping on the job or abandoning their post during a surprise inspection by city police chief Senior Superintendent Orlando Yebra Jr.

The seven policemen would be charged with less serious neglect of duty.

Meanwhile, Corpus directed all EPD personnel to trim their waistline to 34 inches and gave them two months to do it. He said unhealthy police officers cannot perform their duties well.

The EPD chief did not specify what penalties will be meted on police officers who fail to reduce their waistline.
