Lady Bulldogs, PAF belles pace PCABL Dickies tilt

Reigning titlist National U and Air Force downed their respective rivals in contrastin­g styles to keep their unbeaten run in the PCABL seventh Dickies Women’s basketball tournament at the Buddhacare gym in QC last weekend.

With Ria Nabalan and Kaye Pingol on the firing end, the NU Lady Bulldogs overwhelme­d the Adamson Lady Falcons, 98-78, while the PAF belles outlasted the Philippine Under-18 team, 83-80, for 2-0 cards.

Nabalan shot 18 points and added seven rebounds and two assists while Pingol hit 17 markers for the Lady Bulldogs, who are seeking to extend their record title run to five years in the UAAP.

Many-time national team member Cindy Resultay put on another solid all-around game for PAF with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and drew solid backup from Ana Buendia and Analyn Almazan, who scored 18 and 15 points, respective­ly.

In the other game, Ateneo snapped a twogame skid in the event backed by EuroMed, Multimotor­s Auto Parts, CW Home Depot, Choi Garden Restaurant and Blackwater as it held off University of the East, 57-52.

Jhazmin Joson and Jollina Go finished with 12 and 11 points, respective­ly, for Ateneo which is out to end NU’s streak in the premier league. The Lady Bulldogs completed their four-peat feat undefeated.

Meantime, World Cup veteran Jhanine Pontejos helped power Army to a 76-68 win over University of the Philippine­s by scoring 22 points.

Army’s win was its second straight since dropping its opening game in the annual preseason tournament.
