LPA spotted off Mindanao, may intensify into cyclone

- – Helen Flores

A low-pressure area spotted off Mindanao will bring rains over parts of the region this weekend, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

The weather system, which was located 715 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte at 3 a.m. yesterday, may intensify into a tropical cyclone, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said the trough of the low-pressure area would bring rains over Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental.

The state weather bureau said the southwest monsoon would continue to bring scattered to widespread rains over Zambales, Bataan, Mindoro and Palawan.

“Residents of these areas, especially those in low-lying and mountainous areas, are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides,” PAGASA said in an advisory.

Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will also be experienced over Western Visayas and the provinces of Cavite and Batangas due to the southwest monsoon.

Scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with rains or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public against rough to very rough seas in the western seaboard of Southern Luzon due to the southwest monsoon.
