Drug war: 2 dead; cop, SK member arrested

Two suspected drug dealers were killed in an alleged shootout with police oficers in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

The suspects, identified only as Kosa and Jun, were negotiatin­g with a policeman posing as a buyer in Barangay Gulod at around 2:40 a.m. when they sensed it was a sting, according to Quezon City Police District director Chief Superinten­dent Joselito Esquivel.

The suspects died at the scene in the shootout that followed, Esquivel said.

A .38 caliber revolver, a .22 caliber revolver, 12 sachets of shabu and P500 in marked money were recovered from the slain suspects.

Meanwhile, a Caloocan policeman who has been absent without leave for a month was arrested in a drug session Friday night.

Police Officer 2 Michael del Monte was apprehende­d at Market 3 in Barangay North Bay Boulevard North along with alleged pushers Melenia Santiago and her son Romeo and nine others.

Police confiscate­d Del Monte’s 9mm Beretta service pistol and Romeo’s .38 caliber revolver as well as 40 grams of shabu with a street value of P64,000.

In Manila, Sanggunian­g Kabataan councilor Renato Garcia, 23, was arrested in a sting in Tondo Friday night.

He was arrested along with Danilo Filler along Batangas street. Three sachets of shabu were seized from them, police said.

Five more drug suspects were arrested in Quezon City and eight in Mandaluyon­g City.
