More Napindan Bridge II lanes open

- – Evelyn Macairan

The travel time between Bicutan, Taguig City and Taytay, Rizal would be reduced by 30 minutes after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opened the 152-lineal-meter Napindan Bridge II, officials said yesterday.

DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) director Melvin Navarro said with the Napindan Bridge II project complete and operational, “motorists would no longer have to suffer 30 minutes of traffic.”

He explained that the volume of vehicles along the four-lane highway was forced to pass through the two-lane bridge, creating a bottleneck and slowing down the flow of traffic.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that “as we finish with the construction of the Napindan Bridge II, we will further reduce the travel time from Bicutan to Taytay and vice versa.”

The Napindan Bridge II is a 152-lineal meter prestressed girder bridge that is part of the Laguna Lake Highway Project’s Taguig section.

“Before its construction, there were only two lanes available for road travel. The Laguna Lake Highway will now be enhanced by converting its two lane sections into a homogenous four-lane highway with two road lanes available for each direction,” Villar added.

The bridge would connect the river banks of Taguig and Pateros and is set to reduce the traffic congestion along major roads like EDSA and C5.

The bridge construction project began in May 2016 and was estimated to be worth more than P100 million.
