39 Filipinos to pursue further studies under Erasmus+ program

- By HELEN FLORES

A total of 39 Filipinos will pursue their post-graduate studies in Europe this year under the Erasmus+ program.

The Erasmus+ program, which started in 2004, allows students to pursue master’s and doctorate degrees in various universities across the European continent.

European Union Ambassador Franz Jessen urged the outgoing Erasmus+ students to become ambassadors of goodwill and agents of change to help strengthen the partnership between the EU and the Philippines.

He also encouraged the scholars to give back to their country after they finish their program in the EU.

“This program gives lifechanging opportunities for Filipino students to experience living the European culture, learning European languages and being integrated into the European society for one to two years,” the EU said.

Formerly the Erasmus Mundus program, the Erasmus+ promotes the EU as a center of excellence in learning and making student mobility a reality for both EU and non-EU citizens.

Since 2004, more than 300 students and lecturers have benefited from the program, which covers air travel to Europe, tuition and a monthly living allowance.

The Erasmus+ is among the leading international academic mobility programs in the world, and students from the Philippines have benefited considerably from the program.
