Monthly research forum for basic education stakeholders launched
The Department of Education (DepEd) will hold a monthly research forum to discuss issues and concerns on basic education and governance policies that can be adopted or implemented by the department.
Dubbed the “Research O’ Clock,” the forum can serve as a platform for basic education stakeholders to have meaningful exchanges on the issues, concerns and problems that affect the delivery of “quality, accessible, relevant and liberating” basic education to Filipino learners, according to the DepEd.
The forum, to be held in partnership with the Innovations for Poverty Action Philippines, was launched last week at the Bulwagan ng Katarungan Hall at the DepEd central office in Pasig City.
Education Undersecretary for Planning and Field Operations Jesus Lorenzo Mateo said the policy development process being implemented with the forum provides for systematic, evidencebased and participatory mechanisms supported by the adoption of the Basic Education Research Agenda and the establishment of research management guidelines.
“Gone are the days when policies or DepEd orders or memoranda are issued by one office. Now, we can see a lot of collaborations, cooperation prior to the issuance of any DepEd order or memorandum,” he said.
“It is only through an open mind that we can really harness the potential of researches,” he added as called on the participants to keep an open mind during the forum.
