MLTV SHOWCASES NATURAL BEAUTY AND MINDFUL LIVING
In the Episode 10 of the Modern Living TV, hosts Stephanie Zubiri-Crespi and Bianca Gonzalez-Intal takes the viewers to a compelling journey — a tour of the National Museum of Natural History, stories of women advocating “mindful living,” an exclusive interview with Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, and the world-class craftsmanship of Space 2000 furniture pieces.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
Highlighting the richness of the country’s geology and biodiversity, the National Museum of Natural History guarantees every Filipino a deeper sense of pride and understanding of its own natural environment.
Jeremy Barnes, director of the National Museum of the Philippines, invites everyone: “The National Museum is your museum. Come and experience everything that is the best and most profound, most beautiful and most special about our patrimony as Filipinos.” Together with him was the newly appointed Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who explored the different parts of the National Museum of Natural History for the first time.
Aside from well-preserved specimens of fauna and flora, Secretary Bernadette was amazed to see the mega structure called
The Tree of Life, which brings the whole building together under a central space.
The museum also features various beautiful galleries and the remains of the largest saltwater crocodile held in captivity, the famous Lolong from Agusan Marsh.
“What’s nice is you can see so many things that you can’t find in other countries. It is something to be proud of,” she says.
THE BEST OF MINDFUL LIVING
Juana Manahan-Yupangco, founder of Kusina ni Misis, and Kimi Juan-Caja, an advocate of zero-carbon footprint, take the spotlight to encourage every Juan and Juana to start “mindful living.”
Through Kusina ni Misis, Juana creates budget-friendly and nutritious plant-based recipes which everyone can easily whip up in their kitchen. By replacing traditional meat with vegetables, she believes that we can make life better by serving better things on our table.
By eliminating unnecessary wastes in her daily lifestyle, Kimi has successfully shifted towards zero-waste living. She shares, “I think it’s important to remember that we all have our personal journey to zero-waste, and we should all support and influence each other. So, in the end, we can help each other have a better environment and better practices.”
WOMEN WE LOVE: SECRETARY BERNADETTE ROMULO-PUYAT
Secretary Bernadette shares her journey and aspirations in the office as she joins Ikot Manila, a project initiated by the Department of Tourism and the Light of Rail Manila Corp., with the objective of making more people experience the culture and heritage of the country.
“It’s so nice to go around Manila to enjoy the sights and the culture, and I really feel that more people should see it. You know what’s important? Sustainable tourism,” she remarks.
With the secretary’s love for the country, we are on the verge of discovering why it’s really more fun in the Philippines.
The daughter of former senator and diplomat Alberto Romulo and Lovely Tecson, Secretary Bernadette is no stranger in the government. She was a former undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture in 2007. SPACE 2000
