Scammer arrested for harassing lawman, daughters

A woman was apprehended in Sta. Cruz, Manila Friday night for allegedly using fake Facebook accounts to defame a policeman and his daughters.

Sophia Marcos, 33, was caught in an entrapment operation along Rizal Avenue in Sta. Cruz, Manila after she allegedly received P5,000 she demanded from police officer Ronilo de Guzman to stop her smear campaign.

According to Chief Inspector Rosalino Ibay, head of the Manila Police District intelligence and operation unit, Marcos created fake Facebook accounts using the names of De Guzman’s daughters to link the wives of prominent personalities to De Guzman, after the latter rejected her following a supposed affair.

Marcos sent messages to the wives of a police general, a police major, a doctor, and a barangay chairperson linking them to De Guzman, who was deployed to an island in Batangas because of the allegations against him.

“Her targets are prominent personalities,” Ibay said.

Marcos used the names of De Guzman’s daughters Roxsen-Ann, Kaye and Rem to pit different persons against their father, De Guzman’s daughters told The STAR yesterday.

This cost Roxsen-Ann her job as a casino dealer and Rem’s college scholarship because of Marcos’ defamatory messages sent to different persons.

Marcos even sent messages to the friends of De Guzman’s wife Marietta informing them of her death, prompting them to send bouquets of flowers to the De Guzman residence in Tondo.

Police officers also visited their house in Tondo upon a tip that their household was involved in drugs, an allegation that was apparently reported by Marcos, De Guzman’s daughters said.

Marcos is set to face charges of robbery extortion, identity theft and cyber libel.
