2 LPAs may bring rains this week

Two low-pressure areas were spotted yesterday inside the Philippine area of responsibility that could induce monsoon rains in the next days.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the first low-pressure area was located 1,295 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at 3 p.m.

It has a small chance of developing into a tropical depression and might dissipate in the next few days, PAGASA said.

The other low-pressure area was spotted at 425 kilometers west southwest of Subic, Zambales.

It could develop into a tropical depression within the next two to three days, but PAGASA said it could veer away and spare the country.

PAGASA also continued to monitor a typhoon with international name Shanshan.

It was estimated at 2,645 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon and was moving north at 15 kilometers per hour. Shanshan packed winds of 130 kph and gustiness of up to 155 kph.

At present, it has no direct effect on any part of the country.

PAGASA said the three weather systems were enhancing the southwest monsoon, which is bringing scattered rains over Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

The weather system will also bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Metro Manila, Bicol region, and the rest of Calabarzon, Central Luzon and Visayas.

Two or three tropical cyclones are predicted to enter or develop within the Philippine area of responsibility this month.
