Cayetano, Noy ‘war’ over SCS issue far from over

- By PIA LEE-BRAGO

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano yesterday hit back at former president Benigno Aquino III’s suggestion to Google-search the answers to his questions on the previous administration’s policies and actions on the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) dispute, saying that he got more questions than answers.

“Your suggestion to Google answers to my questions led to more questions than answers. It revealed far more serious problems that emanated from an unclear chain of command, serious miscalculations and the absence of an end game for the country,” Cayetano said.

“The media reports that we found in Google now compel me to reiterate many of the questions I raised, and even elaborate,” he added.

Cayetano and Aquino recently clashed over the Philippine stance on West Philippine Sea, with the former president accusing the Duterte administration of not being transparent in its transaction in negotiating with China on the issue.

Cayetano, irked by Aquino’s criticism of his hair in connection with the issue, also slammed Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV calling him Aquino’s “attack dog.”

The senator on Sunday called Cayetano a “political snake.”

In his second open letter to Aquino which, he said, was made “after some thought and a thorough Google search,” Cayetano complained about Aquino’s “mouthpieces” who started calling him names and dared the former president to start helping enlighten the nation by sharing the events and his decisions that led to the extremely complex situation in the West Philippine Sea the country is facing today.
