University of the Philippines got back on track as it ripped San Sebastian, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16, in the lone women’s match in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.

Marian Buitre smashed in 10 points built on seven attacks, two aces and a block while rookie Lorielyn Bernardo also struck with 10 points with all but one coming off attacks as the Lady Maroons recovered from a four-set loss to league-leading UST Tigresses the last time out for a 2-1 card at fourth.

“We worked on the passing part so we had to introduce a different libero to help Rem (Altomea). It went well so our passing kind of improved. I think we have a better rate of passing than in our game last Sunday,” said UP coach Godfrey Okumu.

Outside hitter Mary Bautista suited up as a libero for the Lady Maroons and collected 10 excellent receptions.

“I think she held up pretty nicely and she is loud on court so that is what is needed for a libero,” said Okumu, adding that the rookie is expected to continue playing as a libero in their upcoming games.

Skipper Ayel Estrañero outplayed the entire Lady Stags as she produced all but one of the Lady Maroons’ 24 excellent sets to SSC-R’s measly nine. She also drilled in five aces and tricked their foes with drop shots for an eightpoint output.

Top hitter Isa Molde struggled for seven points for UP while playing under the weather.
