Team CleanFuel/MotulAutoplus dominates 3rd round of Formula V1

-

IN a spectacular display of talent and skill, Luis Gono of Team CleanFuel Racing/ Motul-Autoplus clinched in convincing fashion the third round of the Formula V1 Championship held at the Clark International Speedway last Saturday.

The young hotshoe was the fastest during the qualifying sessions of Saturday morning that earned him pole position. According to the race officials, Gono was 1.3 seconds faster than his closest rival. Despite the pouring rain in the afternoon race, the young racer took off from pole position and was able to fend off challengers throughout the race. Gono was able to gain an eight-second gap from his closest rival, veteran racer Tyson Sy of Team Parts Pro racing, as the two fought for every inch of asphalt.

Despite the pouring rain, which at times gave zero visibility, Gono’s track experience kept him focused and never let him lose his composure as he led the pack throughout the race. “It was slippery and I had to calculate my move especially during fast corners because I did not want to spin out or slow down. I kept telling myself I have to be consistent and always focus without being distracted by the elements around me,” said Gono, in describing how he managed to fend off attacks from the field of superfast V1 race cars.

Gono dominated the Formula V1 Pro Class with an official time of 2:22.68, while his teammate Dominic Roque’s in the Amateur Class was 2:25.6. “It was a team effort and I would like to share this win with them also for setting up the car perfectly for the wet race,” added Gono.

Luis Gono was the first Toyota Vios Cup champion and races competitively in the Drift D1 Championships.
