PNP chief: No quota in drug war

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The national police are not obliged to fill “quotas” of President Duterte’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde made the statement yesterday to clarify reports that the police are being pressured to make accomplishments in the administration’s war on drugs.

“In fairness to (Duterte), he did not say anything about quota. Never since day one that the administration (has demanded quota),” Albayalde told the gathering of the PNP-10’s celebration of the 117th Police Service Anniversary and the Northern Mindanao launching of the “Clean Rider” program here.

Albayalde said there was no such order from Duterte for police units to meet quota.

He admitted though that they are pressured to clear their areas of responsibilities from drug personalities.

Albayalde attended the Clean Rider program seeking to cut down criminal activities involving motorcycle-riding suspects.

About 500 motorcyclists from all over Northern Mindanao attended the ceremony. They were also given Clean Rider stickers to signify their support to the anti-crime campaign of the PNP.

Albayalde gave assurance the stickers are tamper-proof and laden with security features.
