Rayver Kapuso again

- By jeRRy donato

Rayver Cruz is back where he used to belong: GMA 7.

The tall, handsome actor started as a kiddie host of 5

and Up with Atom Araullo (now a documentarist-news anchor) and Chynna Ortaleza (actress-record label producer). Then he ventured into TV acting via Kirara (drama) and Kiss Muna (sitcom with Joey de Leon), his last Kapuso assignment.

Eighteen years later, Rayver is again a Kapuso. He couldn’t help but remember his child-star days when he recently entered the GMA headquarters and signed a contract with the GMA Artist Center.

“We wanted to explore (new things), to have a fresh start (and) to have a new environment (to work in),” replied Rayver when The

STAR asked about his latest career development. That decision was made by him and his manager. But Rayver would probably look at it this way: “(It’s the) same line of work, (but in a) different station. And it’s still the same.”

Rayver remains the nice guy that he is. It’s just that he wishes to have a new ground to play. Rayver is grateful to his former network that has honed his knack for acting, dancing, hosting and singing. As he put it, “(Having spent) 18 years (with them) is no joke. What I have become today is because of them.

Yung training na nakuha ko sa (kanila) madadala ko na yun habang buhay (The training I got from them will stick with me for the rest of my life).” The good thing about this “switch” is, Rayver has left without cutting ties with anyone. “Maayos naman yung paalam ko,” he said. “kagaya ng sinabi ko, forever ko naman silang magiging pamilya, hindi biro yung 18 years.” So, he is simply expanding his horizon and adding more people to his circle of friends.

“I’m at the point of my career that I’m ready to move on, to try new things,” he shared. “I think GMA 7 is the best place to do it.” “Ang tagal ko din namang napagdesisyunan (yun), (I’ve made my decision) way, way back (like) more than a year ago. It was difficult. Hindi naman ganun kabigla yun... (it was not made in haste),” he said.

What’s his first Kapuso project? Rayver said he will star in a drama-romance series with Kris Bernal and Thea Tolentino.

“(I look forward to be) working with Kris and Thea, parehas magaling silang dalawa.” With a FAMAS Best Supporting Actor nomination (for A Mother’s Story) and Cinema One Originals Best Actor win for Saturday

Night Chills, he will hold his own.

Based on the information given by GMA, the show is part of the Kapuso Afternoon

Prime programming. In it, Rayver is Gavin, a man torn between two women.

“I’ll still be doing singing and dancing... Hindi mawawala yun, love ko na ginagawa yun,” he said. “I’m excited to do shows (like soaps) and new challenges.”

Among the current stars of GMA, Rayver wishes to work with Marian Rivera (“Of course, who doesn’t want to work with her?”), Dingdong Dantes, Dennis Trillo, Jason Abalos, Edgar Allan Guzman, Heart Evangelista, Jennylyn Mercado and brother Rodjun Cruz.

“I’m happy na makatrabaho ko siya muli. Iba yung nakikita mo na nasa bahay, iba yung kapag nakatrabaho mo siya,” he said. Now that he is officially a

Kapuso, Rayver can’t wait to start his career anew, “whatever they will give me… I’m just thankful that they warmly welcome me,” he said.
