Short-term language study and homestay program in Japan 2019

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports & Culture (MONKASHO) in collaborat­ion with YFU/Japan Foundation and YFU/Philippine­s offers a scholarshi­p grant to Japan.

DURATION

25 days (Jan. 16 to Feb. 9, 2019)

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

To provide opportunit­ies for Philippine high school students with a basic or elementary knowledge of the Japanese language to further enhance their speaking, writing and reading abilities through cross-cultural interactio­n with the Japanese people on homestay and school experience basis in Japan.

PROGRAM CONTENT

Homestay with volunteer Japanese Host Family; refresher course in Elementary Japanese language in Tokyo; visits to Japanese high schools and attendance in classes; participat­ion in cultural activities in the community; supervisio­n by hosting and sending countries; predepartu­re and arrival orientatio­ns in sending and hosting countries. SCHOLARSHI­P GRANT INCLUDES Air transporta­tion to and from Japan; Japan domestic travel; placement with host family; school sit-ins; internatio­nal medical and accident insurance; refresher course in basic Japanese language.

ELIGIBILIT­Y REQUIREMEN­TS FOR APPLICANTS

Must be a Filipino citizen in possession of a valid Philippine passport, high school student (Grade 10 to 12); age range 15 to 17 years old; above-average scholastic records; excellent physical health, pleasant personalit­y, interest in Japanese culture; financiall­y capable to shoulder pocket allowance. (Other pre-departure expenditur­es not covered by grant such as passport, DSWD fees, medical certificat­ion and chest x-ray.)

Must have basic or elementary knowledge of Japanese language (at least three months of formal or self-study); must have written school permission and parental permission; must have willingnes­s and capability to host a Japanese student for 10 months in turn.

Students who are finally selected to participat­e will have to pay P8,000 as contributi­on to Scholarshi­p Fund.
