8 decades oF classic style with lacoste
To celebrate its 85th anniversary, Lacoste has created a unique experience to present its heritage and innovativeness in an exhibition designed as a tribute to the legendary René Lacoste. Located in the lobby of Central Square Mall in Bonifacio High Street Centeral, the exhibition reflects eight decades of the brand’s history, creativity and evolution.
A highlight of the exhibition is Lacoste’s 85th anniversary capsule collection that consists of 15 classic designs from its archives. The range includes eight unisex polo shirts, with each style correlating from the ’30s to the ’90s; three dresses, a pair of shoes, and three bags. It’s a reinterpretation of the brand’s archives, drawing inspiration from the cult-pieces of each decade.
To commemorate the ’30s, a fitted style inspired by the prototype of the iconic L.12.12 polo, made of cotton, with chest pocket and slightly longer sleeves, in ecru, navy blue and red color. Borrowed from the ’40s, a jersey polo shirt is characterized by a specific collar detail. And for the iconic ’50s, a sportswear piece with an old-school vibe — the polo meets the sweatshirt, with a green cotton crepe, ribbed collar, double ribbed cuffs and waistband.
The display featuring the ’60s proposes a navy blue and white buttoned-up pique polo, a V-neck and bareback tennis dress and the René canvas sneakers, still faithful to the original design. The color blocking polo shirt with large decorative bands and a white, navy and red, fine knit cotton polo shirt dress characterize the ’70s.
The ’80s saw the mariniére T–shirt, which inspired the current cotton pique polo shirt with navy blue and white shoulder details. The pieces symbolizing the ’90s feature color and an all-over print: the color blocking design is proposed for accessories — a backpack, mariniére sac bag and fanny pack. In the 2000s, we see a return to basics, with a sporty polo shirt.
