Pateros vice mayor released from jail

- – Non Alquitran

The vice mayor of Pateros, who was arrested last week for allegedly beating up his wife of 10 years, was temporarily freed from detention on Friday.

Senior Deputy Provincial Prosecutor Gloria Marinduque de Guzman ordered the release of Vice Mayor Gerald German, 39, for futher investigation.

Senior Superintendent Eliseo Cruz, director of the Southern Police District, said they filed charges of violence against women and their children against German based on the complaint of his wife, Mary Antonette, 38.

Reports said that Mary Antonette sought police assistance when the argument turned violent on Thursday.

Police said it was the third time that the German couple engaged in an argument supposedly over jealousy.

Mary Antonette claimed that she was also beaten by German on July 8 and Aug. 30.

“I was informed by the chief of police that the couple appeared at the police headquarters and have the incidents entered in a blotter,” Cruz said. “This time around, the wife filed charges against her husband before the city prosecutor’s office.”

In their latest quarrel, the vice mayor’s wife reportedly suffered bruises in her face and arms.

Prior to the argument, a source told The STAR that Mary Antonette got angry after hearing German talking to a woman on a cell phone during his birthday celebration.
