Del Monte, two others share PAL ladies interclub honors

Del Monte and Tagaytay Highlands outclassed their rivals while Bacolod edged host Rancho Palos Verdes as they topped their respective divisions in the 13th Philippine Airlines Interclub golf team championsh­ips at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club in Davao over the weekend.

Del Monte leaned on Martina Miñoza’s 52 points and Rhea Langgamin’s 51 while Kiara Montebon added 45 points for a 148 and a 554, beating Lady Eagles Australian 1, which pooled 541 points behind Kelsey Benett’s 55 points. Negros Occidental placed third with 507.

In the Sportswrit­ers division, Tagaytay Highlands drew 53 points from Sophia Blanco to beat Camp Aguinaldo by 15 points. Tagaytay closed out with 123 for 460 points while Aguinaldo, anchored by Mabel Salivio’s 47, submitted 111 for 445.

Alethea Gaccion scored 49 points as Pueblo de Oro finished third with a 433.

Meanwhile, Bacolod nipped Rancho Palos Verdes, 362-361, behind a strong finish of 99 points to snare the hotly disputed Friendship crown. Jocel Pagunsan led Bacolod with 41 points while Mi Sun Jo shot 36 points for the host club.

Apo Golf placed third with 326 points.

Earlier, Pradera Verde retained the championsh­ip division in comefrom-behind fashion, foiling three-day leader and former titlist Manila Southwoods by 13 points.
