Zambales vice gov’s son finishes top 2 in UK
Alfredo Vicente Magsaysay Cheng, son of Zambales Vice Governor Angel Magsaysay Cheng will be earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioprocessing of New Medicines (Science and Engineering) with a second upper class honor, comparable to a magna cum laude, from the Advanced Centre of Biochemical Engineering at the University College London (UCL), the first Filipino graduating in this course.
The university is ranked the 10th best in the world and fourth in the United Kingdom, according to the QS World University Rankings.
Cheng is one of only six students who will graduate from the program, which started with 15 students.
The program focuses on the manufacture and translation of cutting-edge research in cell therapies, gene therapies, tissue engineering and vaccines. These therapies include immunotherapies and stem cell therapies.
In January 2019, Cheng will start pursuing a medical degree at the University of Buckingham.
Coming from a long line of public servants, his mother, daughter of former governor Vicente Magsaysay, has inspired him to live a life of service. He, however, chose to render public service differently by pursuing medicine.
Cheng dreams of bringing back curative and affordable therapies to the Philippines.
He also comes from a family of doctors as his father Alfredo Senga Cheng is a doctor specializing in internal medicine.
