September TV ratings still a toss-up

TV network giants ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. have claimed anew their respective dominance in nationwide ratings for the month of September.

ABS-CBN said it remained as the country’s most watched TV network last month based on data from Kantar Media, with an average audience share of 44 percent compared to GMA’s 33 percent.

Among Metro Manila households, ABS-CBN said it posted an average audience share of 41 percent against its main rival’s 28 percent.

It likewise extended its lead in total Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao with audience share of 39 percent, 53 percent, and 51 percent, respective­ly.

According to ABS-CBN, multinatio­nal audience measuremen­t provider Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

Meanwhile, GMA Network said it remained as the nationwide leader for September, posting an average total day people audience share of 41.1 percent versus ABSCBN’s 37.1 percent based on the National Urban Television Audience Measuremen­t.

GMA Network said it maintained its dominance in the viewer-rich areas of urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which account for 72 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country, respective­ly.

The network said it garnered an average total day people audience share of 46.7 percent in urban Luzon versus ABS-CBN’s 30.8 percent, and 48.6 percent in Mega Manila as compared to its rival’s 27.9 percent.

According to GMA Network, Nielsen data is statistica­lly considered more representa­tive of the total TV population as it is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media, with approximat­ely 900 more homes surveyed in total urban and rural Philippine­s.
