Finale Auctions presents its arts, watches and jewelry selection
Finale Auctions will auction off pieces of fine art and jewelry as well as watches on Oct. 13, Saturday, and Oct. 14, Sunday.
In the Saturday edition starting at 2 p.m., the spotlight is on a unique selection of highly coveted works by, among others, abstract and modernist masters, seminal sculptors and National Artists, and 19th-century visionaries. The abstract works of Arturo Luz, Romulo Olazo, and Fernando Zobel take center stage. “Desert Mirage” by Luz features the National Artist’s trademark abstraction of spare, uncomplicated beauty. For his “Diaphanous Anthurium,” Olazo expressed a throng of flowers as an evocation of translucent forms. “Los Grajos VI” by Zobel recalls the visual ethos of his “Saeta” series, pulsing with an escalating intensity.
Providing some of the highlights are the works by our National Artists. In his version of the Pieta, Ang Kiukok offers a work of searing and agonizing beauty, renewing the humanism of the subject matter. BenCab’s “Heredero” features the gentlemanly inheritor of the family fortune. In “Bontoc Igorotes,” his breathtaking rendition of Banaue Rice Terraces, Amorsolo employed his lush visual lexicon in infusing an ordinary scene with lyrical resplendence.
Classicism shines in the works of the 19th-century masters: Telesforo Sucgang and Juan Luna. Sucgang, a contemporary of Luna and Rizal, is being re-evaluated in a new light. His painting, “Flores, Frutos, y Mariposas” attests to his profound mastery of the classical form. The appearance of Luna’s “Pensamientos” adds to our appreciation of arguably the most important artist in Philippine history. The work, which bears the master’s famed chiaroscuro, features a swirl of pansies touched by a tone of mortality.
Meanwhile Finale’s inaugural “Watches & Jewelry” sale will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. Composed of rare modern timepieces, one-of-a-kind vintage examples, and historically significant timepieces, the collection is sure to excite both local and international collectors and connoisseurs.
The highlight of the Rolex collection is the exceptionally rare Paul Newman Daytona Reference 6240 with its unique “exotic” tri-color dial — completely original and in immaculate condition. Made in 1967, this reference is rarely offered at auction, and to have one featured in this collection is truly remarkable and a first for the Philippine market.
The Finale Auctions preview begins on Oct. 5 at Finale Art File, Warehouse 17, La Fuerza Compound, 2241 Chino Roces Ave, Makati City.
