GERMAN EUROPEAN SCHOOL MANILA

A school for everyone who wants to be different to make a difference

- For further details, visit www. gesm.org.

This German-International school with its lively mix of over 40 nationalities and four main languages might seem too far away from the hubs of Makati and Global City, but it prides itself on offering something more valuable than shiny façades: First, GESM, as you would expect from a German school, looks “green.” Situated in what resembles a botanical garden, it represents a fusion of the modern and the traditional, a place where you feel the soft breeze of fresh and pure air blowing almost constantly from the sea to the lagoon. Second, with its family atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence, children tell you they feel at home. With this feeling comes a liberal and social attitude, where you do not miss a school uniform because students are educated to reflect on their outward appearance and its effect on others. In this and other matters, teachers prefer discussing the students’ views instead of just ordering them to respect a rule. This openness, not to be mistaken for a lack of authority, reveals an educational concept that centers on independence, responsibility, compassion and integrity — a concept that has its roots in German and European traditions of education, but which also includes and shapes the IB learner profile in GESM’s Primary Years and IB Diploma Programs.

The unique educational opportunities are also based on being part of Eurocampus: It cooperates closely with its French partner, the Lycée Français de Manille in order to create a lively and colorful multicultural and diverse environment of French, German and international elements, having GESM students experience French culture and traditions, being open and tolerant toward the many different cultures and philosophies present within the two schools.

Studying at GESM also offers something no other school in the Philippines can: It opens the door to further study at universities across the world, but especially in Germany, Austria or Switzerland (in German or English). Even if your child does not yet speak German, the immersive training starting in Kindergarten will enable every child to follow the German curriculum; or as another option, the International Stream with its English language program (Cambridge) will lead you to German language certificates that enable easy entry to German universities, which are world-famous for their academic freedom, and for being free of charge.

As a testament to the quality of education provided by GESM, the school is proud to announce that it was, once again, officially recognized as an Excellent German School Abroad by the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen) after the recent inspection.

The school’s latest batch of graduates confirmed this strong tradition in its academic history as they successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The students entered exams in 32 subjects. In 18 of them, GESM ranked equal or above world average, among them languages like German, English, Spanish, Chinese and Hebrew, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Music and Visual Arts. This academic quality was also exemplified by its Grade 10 students achieving a 100-percent pass rate in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations as well as in the DSD1 German language exam set by the German authorities.

GESM stands firm in its commitment to provide excellent education in German and English, following highest internationally accepted standards, both now and in the years to come. Come and see for yourself. You are welcome to drop in at any time that the school is in session or visit during the Open House days.
