NPort win leaves Dyip in cellar

- By NELSON BELTRAN

NorthPort ended its long winless spell and kept its flickering playoff hopes alive on a 118101 conquest of Columbian Dyip behind an explosive windup in their PBA Governors Cup Petron Blaze road showdown at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo last night.

Import Rashad Woods struggled for only 13 points on early fouls but locals Moala Tautuaa, Stanley Pringle and Sean Anthony stepped up as the Batang Pier nailed a first win in over three months and thus stayed in contention for playoffs in the seasonending tourney.

Moala Tautuaa powered his way to 26 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out with over a minute left to play. Pringle sizzled also with 26 markers that went with seven assists and two boards while Anthony was all over the floor collecting 25 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists.

Paolo Taha was another local that finished in double figures with 10 points as NorthPort notched a first win in seven games while keeping Columbian Dyip out of the wincolumn after eight outings.

Alaska Milk added to the woes of the struggling San Miguel Beer squad, riding high on the big games of import Mike Harris and top local Vic Manuel to fashion out a 127-119 win later in the night.

Harris came through with 36 points and 23 rebounds while Manuel contributed 20 markers, six boards and four assists as the Alaska tied the Blackwater and Magnolia at second place at 5-1. The Beermen suffered a third straight loss and dropped to 2-4.
