Taiwan donates $250,000 for Ompong victims
Taiwan donated on Tuesday $250,000 for humanitarian relief fund to the victims of Typhoon Ompong in Northern Luzon.
Peiyung Hsu, representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO), turned over $250,000 donation to Angelito Banayo, chairman and resident representative of Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), Philippine Representative Office in Taiwan, to assist with the recovery and rehabilitation work in the areas devastated by Typhoon Ompong.
The donation ceremony was held during Taiwan’s National Day reception at the Sofitel Hotel.
TECO said Taiwan’s act of benevolence fully demonstrates the genuine friendship and solidarity between the peoples of Taiwan and the Philippines.
Banayo expressed gratitude to Taiwan’s generous and benevolent donation, as the typhoon Ompong affected families in North Luzon urgently need various kinds of assistance to recover from the natural disaster.
“A friend in need is a friend indeed. Taiwan, as the Philippines’ closest neighbor in the north, once again proves to be the valuable and worthy friend to the Philippines in times of difficulties,” TECO said. “Whenever there are natural calamities in the Philippines, Taiwan has always been one of the first countries to extend humanitarian relief efforts.”
TECO said Taiwan’s donation is also a reflection of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, launched by President Tsai Ing-wen that attaches great importance to the Philippines and its people.
The core value of the New Southbound Policy is underlined by building people-topeople connectivity through human touch and caring.
Taiwan and its people will continue to enhance and strengthen the friendship with the Philippines and its people by sharing their love and caring.
