Congress kicks off National Coop Month celebrations
The House Committee on Cooperative Development, in cooperation with the Landbank of the Philippines and the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), recently spearheaded a number of key events to mark the formal opening of the National Cooperative Month.
A photo exhibit and cooperative products tradeshow was launched last Oct. 1. A week later, on Oct. 8, more than 1,500 cooperative leaders and stakeholders filled the galleries of the plenary hall to witness Agap Party List Rep. Rico Geron, chairman, Committee on Cooperatives Development and COOP-NATCCO Partylist Rep. The coop representatives highlighted the significant role of cooperatives in socio-economic development. Among them are the coops’ contributions to the economy, food security, employment, Marawi rehabilitation, environment protection and poverty alleviation.
The cooperative delegation was warmly welcomed and duly recognized by the House leadership. Cooperatives that were given special recognition also had a photo opportunity with Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
