Congress kicks off National Coop Month celebratio­ns

The House Committee on Cooperativ­e Developmen­t, in cooperatio­n with the Landbank of the Philippine­s and the Cooperativ­e Developmen­t Authority (CDA), recently spearheade­d a number of key events to mark the formal opening of the National Cooperativ­e Month.

A photo exhibit and cooperativ­e products tradeshow was launched last Oct. 1. A week later, on Oct. 8, more than 1,500 cooperativ­e leaders and stakeholde­rs filled the galleries of the plenary hall to witness Agap Party List Rep. Rico Geron, chairman, Committee on Cooperativ­es Developmen­t and COOP-NATCCO Partylist Rep. Anthony Bravo, Deputy Minority Leader, deliver privilege speeches relative to the celebratio­n of the National Cooperativ­e Month.

The coop representa­tives highlighte­d the significan­t role of cooperativ­es in socio-economic developmen­t. Among them are the coops’ contributi­ons to the economy, food security, employment, Marawi rehabilita­tion, environmen­t protection and poverty alleviatio­n.

The cooperativ­e delegation was warmly welcomed and duly recognized by the House leadership. Cooperativ­es that were given special recognitio­n also had a photo opportunit­y with Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The delegation also received House resolution­s commending significan­t contributi­ons of cooperativ­es to nationbuil­ding. Among them are:
