Another zombie thriller from South Korea

-

From the makers of the box-office hit Train To Busan comes another thriller of human versus zombies. Rampant is dubbed as the Joseon-era version of Train To Busan. The film stars Hyun

Bin (My Name is Kim Sam Soon, Secret Garden) and Jang Donggun

Ssi (All About Eve). It is directed by Kim Sung-hoon who megged the 2017 Korean blockbuster Confidential Assignment.

The creature flick is said to tell the story of a young prince known for his superior skills in martial arts, who returns to Joseon after his long imprisonment by the Qing Empire and the death of his brother, the crown prince.

As he goes home, he finds the palace nearly overrun by zombie-and-vampire like creatures called the night demons that attack humans at night. He will then get help from a band of people to fight off these night demons.

In an article on Soompi.com, lead actor Hyun Bin was quoted as saying about the filming process: “Action scenes with the zombies were difficult. We had to practice a lot of swordsmanship, but while it was really hard, we improved that much more, and I think it came out well in the film. Because there was risk of injury in the action scenes with the zombies, I remember being constantly on alert while filming.”

Meanwhile, a Korea Times review said of the film: “Compared with Yeon Sang-ho’s Train, which explores human nature in the apocalyptic zombie pandemic, Rampant gives the impression it is more focused on the action and thrills of seeing flesh-eating, blood-sucking zombies.”

Rated R-13 by the MTRCB, the film will hit Philippine cinemas tomorrow, Oct. 25, from Rafaella Films International.
