Rody unperturbed by mail bombs — Palace

- By ALEXIS ROMERO

While admitting that the Philippines may face similar threats, presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo yesterday said President Duterte is not bothered by the mail bomb incidents in the US.

“We are not perturbed with respect to the security of (President Duterte). The Presidential Security Group is doing a fine job,” Panelo said in a statement.

“Apart from the mantle of protection being in place, the President is absolutely not bothered by any attempt against his life nor will it distract his focus on fulfilling his mandate by – and the directive of – the Constitution to protect and serve the Filipino people with integrity, dedication and fidelity,” Panelo added.

Panelo urged the public to be vigilant, noting that terrorists know no race or ethnicity.

“(Terrorists) could be of any nationality or a descendant of any nationality. With motions reported as clandestine, they are often faceless and unseen. One thing, however, defines them: they are evil and capable of terrible deeds,” said Panelo, who also serves as chief legal counsel of Duterte.

“Unmindful of the nation where they belong, the perverted causes they espouse are the very cause of terrorism. We thus encourage everyone to always practice vigilance amid this global issue,” Panelo added.
