Bee Gees Gold Tribute at Resorts World Manila Nov. 7

-

The Bee Gees Gold Tribute featuring John Acosta invades Manila on Nov. 7, 8 p.m., at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre of Resorts World Manila. Lead singer Acosta as Barry Gibb headlines one of the world’s best tribute bands that has performed all over the world. His portrayal of Gibb is filled with a lot of zest for details like no other tribute band has.

From the look to the falsetto, you can close your eyes and say it’s Barry Gibb! Acosta’s Bee Gees Gold Tribute is the ultimate salute to one of the world’s most beloved bands and watching the tribute band is just like seeing the Bee Gees perform in its prime. And why not, with the detailed vocal stylings of Acosta with Michael Anthony Welsh (as Robin Gibb) and Jeff Celentano (as Maurice Gibb), it will really knock the socks off any music sceptic.

Backed by a live band, the Vegas Bee Gees Tribute recreates the look and sound of the Bee Gees from the ‘60s to the late ‘70s, with the unique falsettos that made the band members legends. To be performed are the early Bee Gees hits like Massachusetts, I Started A Joke, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and the first-ever US and UK charting hit New York Mining Disaster to latter Disco classics like Stayin’ Alive, You Should Be Dancing, Night Fever, More Than A Woman and so much more.

Acosta’s first encounter with the music of the Bee Gees happened while he was growing up in Uruguay. He caught the “fever” when at age 10, he saw Saturday Night Fever for the first time. Since then, Acosta has pursued a music career either as a solo artist or as part of a band. As a performer, he has always included Bee Gees songs in his repertoire. The Bee Gees were a huge hit in South America and John would have his ear glued to a radio show that played ‘60s Bee Gees songs every night.

After migrating to Canada where he continued to pursue his music career for eight years, Acosta and his family eventually moved to Las Vegas to find better opportunities. In Vegas, Acosta started out as a member of a Latin trio. He also included Bee Gees songs in the trio’s repertoire but with a touch of Latin rhythms.

Soon enough Acosta decided to form a band where he met Welsh and was impressed with his singing. But it was Welsh’s resemblance to Robin Gibb that encouraged Acosta to form a Bee Gees tribute band. Celentano, who was from another band, later followed thus completing the first line-up the Bee Gees Gold Tribute Band. The band’s first worldwide exposure happened when Acosta put a live promo video of his band online and within days, agents started calling him and wanting to book them. Other agents wanted to book them in a TV show called AXS TV — The World’s Greatest

Tribute Band. The band passed AXS TV’s rigorous screening process and was able to perform. The TV gig opened a lot of doors and gave the group the opportunity to perform all over the world. The rest, as they say, is history.
