Fire, ice & magic this Christmas at the Big Dome

-

Christmas is the perfect time for bonding with family and friends. As the holidays draw near, the options are beginning to pile up but one show you shouldn’t miss: Steve Wheeler’s Magic On Ice (MOI).

Coming to Manila for the first time after thrilling over 40 million people in 200 countries already, the dynamic fusion of mind-blowing illusions and thrilling ice acrobatics is Araneta Center’s Christmas offering running from Dec. 25 to Jan 1, 2019 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With critics lauding the show for “unique performances...(and) great fun for the whole family,” the acclaimed spectacular is the new thing this year if you are tired of the usual fare. This show has everything — dramatic lighting, cutting-edge stagecraft and jaw-dropping feats of nearly super-human proportions. And if that’s not impressive enough, Magic On Ice features customdesigned illusions by the team that created effects for the legendary David Copperfield and Cirque Du Soleil.

Make your Christmas merry and white as frozen snow as the Big Dome welcomes the return of an ice extravaganza to its hallowed halls. The iconic venue, after all, has been the home of enthralling ice spectacles from the days of Holiday

On Ice in the early ‘60s. Feast your eyes on: The remarkable production design. The creative team behind Magic On Ice has worked behind the scenes in some of the best shows in the world, including Le Rêve, the only Las Vegas show set in an aquatic theater-in-the-round stage at the Wynn Las Vegas Casino Resort; Cirque du Soleil’s

Mystere and O; the 2006 Winter Olympics opening ceremony; and concerts of Prince, Sting and Madonna. All this talent and expertise will make for an amazing MOI set design!

The dazzling Lights. Usually programmed

months first performance, before the state-of-the-art computer technology hundreds is behind of lighting the all triggered cues per hour, by a time from code the show’s signal musical for dramatic soundtrack effect and heightened mystery. The fabulous costumes. From glitzy ice wear to fantastic headdresses decorated with thousands of Swarovski crystals and other embellishments, the costumes were constructed to ensure functionality and dramatic appearance. Most artists in the show have about five to seven outfits, and with precise planning — an entire costume change can be done in less than a minute. The curious characters. The show follows a handful of characters: The Voyager is played by show creator Wheeler and he discovers the frozen world of dreams. He is enamored by the Ice Angel, but the Raven is out to steal his heart away. The ensemble is collectively known as The Seekers, and for kids, there’s a family of Slinkies with cute on-ice antics.

The unforgettable acts. Catch your breath watching the Voyager squeeze his body into a shoe box-sized container or escape from the Jaws of Death; or the Ice Angel balancing on the tip of a sword; or the Raven appearing inside an empty burning cage. However, the most memorable could be the fact that you may be part of the show during one of the comedy segments. That would be hard to top. Magic On Ice will be a riveting Christmas-toNew Year’s Day experience for everybody.
