Colorful Christmas at Robinsons Galleria
A dazzling, colorful Christmas awaits shoppers at Robinsons Galleria this Yuletide season.
On Nov. 9, Robinsons Galleria celebrates the holiday spirit with aweinspiring decor, a slew of musical performances and the lighting of Galleria’s signature Christmas Tree.
Standing at 32-ft. tall, the Christmas tree breaks the tradition of a normal garland tree. It is an elegant, custommade tree from Europe, which makes a perfect background for Instagram-worthy moments with family and friends. Intricate ornaments are also customized to match the tree. Completing it are the “patent LED” Christmas lights that illuminate high-end establishments all over the world. At the base of the tree are six brightly-lighted reindeers and glittery Christmas balls which enhance the overall look of the Christmas tree.
To complete the festive mood, Robinsons Galleria will invite the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth — a 68-piece ensemble of young musicians — to serenade mall-goers and shoppers with their repertoire of music by well-known composers from around the world.
Performing under the baton of Venezuelan conductor Joshua Dos Santos, the orchestra will play classical pieces such as Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco Overture; Oscar Fernandez’s Batuque, an excerpt from Manuel Penella’s opera titled El Ganto Montes; Herrero y Armenteros’ Venezuela; Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2; Johann Strauss’ Pizzicato Polka; Yuzo Toyama’s Rhapsody for Orchestra; Eugenio Toussaint’s Mambo as well as beloved OPM songs and Christmas tunes like Rey Valera’s Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko and Ryan Cayabyab’s Kumukutikutitap and Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.
The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, the performing arm of Ang Misyon, Inc. (AMI), is inspired by Venezuela’s El Sistema that provides free music lessons to children of disadvantaged families. The scholars are mostly children aged between nine and 24. The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth has already performed in various venues in Metro Manila and in the provinces. The orchestra also reached the international scene as it performed in Malaysia and the US. Its latest achievements include holding a concert at the iconic Qatar National Library and at the opulent Katara Opera House late last month.
