Ateneo holds federalism forum in Baguio today
The Ateneo School of Government (ASOG), through the Ateneo Policy Center and in partnership with the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP), presents a nationwide series of discussions titled, “A Forum on the Economic, Social, and Political Viability of Federalism in the Philippines.” After initial stops in Naga, Iloilo, and Cebu, this Federalism Roadshow will make its way to Baguio today, 8 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Louis University Center for Culture and the Arts.
The discussions will feature prominent experts on decentralization and federalism and dive into questions such as how federalism is linked to decentralization; the dif- ferent models of federalism and which model best fits the Philippines; the risks and opportunities of adopting federalism in the country; and how federalism can build social cohesion and a better economy for the Philippines.
Aside from raising greater public awareness on the proposed shift to federalism, ASOG hopes the discussions can also help generate new ideas and empirical evidence that can help policymakers and other stakeholders with their review of the proposed shift to federalism.
