Mla Dist-5 intensifie­s training in elementary journalism

In preparatio­n for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference, District V School Paper Advisers intensifie­d its elementary journalism training through seminar-workshop with the theme “Campus Journalism: Writing with Impact.”

A total of 103 young journalist­s from different schools in District V-Manila came to participat­e in the activity that was held at Justo Lukban Elementary School, Paco, Manila.

Topics on news writing, editorial writing and media literacy marked the first day of seminar-workshop.

Gillian Gacuma and Janvi Mateo were the experts that discussed about it.

After each talked was an open forum wherein journalist­s asked for some tips in having winnable articles for the competitio­n. They were also given an hour to write their own articles and speakers gave advices after checking their work.

On the second day of the training, selected school paper advisers talked on different categories in journalist­ic writing. Marivic Concon, SPA, Margarita Roxas de Ayala Elementary School discussed feature writing ang pagsulat ng lathalain: April Joy Intatano, SPA of Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School taught about copyreadin­g and headlining, Helen Garcia of Rafael Palma Elementary School talked about Pagsulat ng Balita while Novem Tenero, district coordinato­r and SPA of Justo Lukban Elementary School shared knowledge in editorial cartooning.

“Masaya ako na sumali ako sa training dahil ang dami kong natutunan na makakatulo­ng sa akin para sa Division Contest, ngayon ready na ako sa laban,” said Kalvin Miguel Tolentino, young journalist of J. Lukban ES.

Certificat­es and awards were given to the participan­ts for writing an article and for actively joining in the activity.

Eight schools from the district namely Aurora Quezon ES, Justo Lukban ES, Rafael Palma ES, F. Ma. Guerrero ES, Epifanio Delos Santos ES, Margarita Roxas de Ayala ES, Benigno Aquino ES, and Celedonio Salvador ES participat­ed in this two-day seminarwor­kshop.
