Huawei brings White Christmas dreams to life
IN a tropical country like the Philippines, cold winters and fluffy, white falling snow are only childhood fantasies — until now. With the holiday season fast approaching and the world counts down the days until Christmas, global technology leader Huawei has made the dream of countless Filipinos come true by making it snow in the Philippines during “Make Snow Possible,” series of Yuletide-themed pocket events that first kicked off last Dec. 1 at SM Aura Premier in Taguig.
SNOWY FANTASY COMES ALIVE
The event, which also served as a Huawei’s Thanksgiving party, saw tech lovers, photography enthusiasts and Huawei fans in general flock to the Huawei Experience Zone at the UG level of SM Aura Premier where an elegant and stylish white Christmas wonderland awaits. Lucky attendees playfully basked in the mystical and regal feel of white flakes slowly falling, in tune with themed holiday music and magical lights that made both young and old alike smile in delight. Completing the wintery atmosphere was Santa Claus who made time to personally hear the wishes of children, whether naughty or nice. Accompanying him was Huawei’s resident mascot Wei Wei who prepared a dance number to entertain Huawei fans. In addition to the snow show and holiday-themed decors, guests were able to have an immersive hands-on experience with all the latest Huawei products prominently displayed at the interactive booths.
Completing the audiovisual treat is the official reveal of Huawei’s two-minute Christmas TVC featuring a little boy’s efforts to share the love with family while he wishes for snow.
“Make It Snow is our way to give happiness to our loyal Filipino fans consumers, making them experience the spirit of Christmas and offering generous product promotions,” shares Huawei Philippines country manager George Li.
CUSTOMER-CENTRICITY AND R&D: ROAD TO NO. 2
Huawei’s mobile division has truly gone a long way since the establishment of a handset department back in 2003. It then transformed its business strategy in 2009 by aiming to build its own smartphone brand. In 2011, Huawei focused on efforts to gain significant market share while setting and successfully achieving four major transformation goals. By 2015, Huawei consumer business group CEO Richard Yu announced that the company intends to become the No. 1 smartphone brand in the next three to five years.
Since declaring this monumental goal, Hauwei has been making steady progress. According to market research firms IDC, SA, Canalys and Counterpoint, Huawei CBG revenue achieved 30 percent year-on-year growth in 2017 while in 2018, Huawei officially clinched the No. 2 spot in global smartphone shipments in Q2 and Q3 respectively, overtaking tech giant Apple.
Powering Huawei’s success is the steadfast commitment to Research and Development (R&D), alloting 15 percent R&D investment to development work that is powered by over 80,000 determined staff members. Huawei is now ranked sixth in the world in terms of R&D, ahead of Apple. This falls in line with Huawei’s customer-centric culture ingrained into the Huawei DNA that adapts to consumer business in its own way.
